Inertia… Hooph.. How can I get rid of that??? This is the 4th time I am writing something to put up in my blog today. And for the last three times I had 3 different topics. So it’s not because of lack of topics that I don’t write, it’s because of Inertia I guess.

Last week was really hectic. I had to submit my project, exams- both lab and theory and a lot of journey. So in this post I will incorporate the contents of the 3 posts I thought to write (in brief). Thank you to my dear friend who wrote the assignment for me which I have to submit tomorrow.

I have been selected for the google summer of code project is the first thing (wonders still happen). I haven’t done anything significant for the project till date and my mentor have an option of dismissing me from the project contest before May 28 considering my performance. Hope it won’t happen. Three students from our college got selected for the SOC project and that is too less. There were some others too who were worthy enough to get into the project. Thank you to the guru.

The second thing is about Thrissur pooram. It’s always fun to be with friends. I never had a much better Pooram. I had a chat with a chiromancer (palmist) – a short woman. Palm reading costs about twenty five rupees and only ten rupees for making the parrot take a card (any name for that science). Well, the inherent miser in me made me go for the second option. The palmist freed the parrot and she (he??) took the Krishna card for me. Heard a whole lot of good things (worth Rs 10) J… The pooram exhibition was really cool. A lot of things happened there. One of my friends sat down and imitated a palm reader and that was really funny. Another gang of youngsters didn’t really like this and wanted to have a fight with us. Well, nothing bad happened - after all legs are not just for walking. I didn’t wait to see for the fireworks. At about 12.00 midnight I was an odd man out in the group (guess what) and I made a lame excuse and went home.

The third thing is the chat I had with my grand uncle, my mother’s uncle. I spend almost a day with him. Unlike most of the people of my age I love to listen to old people. I never felt it boring listening to them. I learn a lot from them but little do I implement in my life L… He just pointed out that my way of talking need to be improved (my mother used to tell me that too). “Hear what you talk” – that’s what he told. One should hear what he talks. It doesn’t mean that you have to talk loudly. You have to hear it before you say – your mind should hear so that you are so sure that what you are talking about and the chances of mistakes will get reduced a lot. The talk then lead to how to be happy which ended with the connotation “Do to others what you expect others to do to you”. Hey, don’t think that he is a philosopher. Girls - were the next topic we discussed about. He even offered me a drink. :P

The END

I hate proof reading. The number of errors increases each time I read my article.

Simply…

I am so tempted to make a new post in the blog but I don’t intend to spend much time for it. So I thought of writing something which is in my mind for quite some time. Here it is-another one liner.

Passing by your street, my heart starts to beat.

I guess, it’s from some music album or did someone tell me that!!! :P..

Injustice rules…

In this corrupted world if an officer tries to be sincere and is not ready to fall for any kind of offers, he is sure to gain a lot of enemies. And he would be keenly watched for the slightest of his mistakes by his counterparts to crucify him. And what if the man is a perfectionist and doesn’t make any mistakes? Then they got to fabricate stuffs or have to make use of the loop holes of law to prove him not fit for the position. The first tactic doesn’t have much significance as a fabricated story can’t prove anything other than an ill name for the officer.

The second way of treatment is what the present Director of Technical Education of Kerala had. He has earned a lot of enemies in his short carrier as DTE. He was suspended yesterday. Well, here goes the reason. To become the DTE of Kerala one should possess atleast an M.Tech degree from a recognized university. And this poor guy holds a M.S degree from Houston University. And that made him not eligible for the post!

So, what does that signify?

An M.Tech from Kerala University is much better than M.S degree from Houston???

No wonder Raju Narayana Swamy resigned his job and went to US.

update: The last statement is an outcome of my ignorance. Raju Narayana Swamy is presently working as the collector of Kottayam District. Sorry for the error.

Golden Jubilee of GEC Thrissur

The golden jubilee celebration of our college started today. The celebration is indeed going to be a great event which is planned to be a one year program. A series of talks by eminent personalities is one of the key attractions.

The inauguration happened today and the chief guests were Dr M.S Ananth, Director IIT Madras and Dr. P.J. George (our former principal and DTE). After the welcome speech by our principal, Dr P.J. George made a talk on how the college was at his time and what it is now and what more the college can do for the society.

Right after that the lecture session by Mr M.S Ananth began which was mind blowing.
He mentioned briefly how the concept of education got transformed through the following phases.

Knowledge is power; it should be in the hands of exclusive few.
Knowledge is power; it should be in the hands of meritorious.
Knowledge is power; it should be in the hands of all.

(The “Knowledge is power” part remain the same through ages :) )

In ancient India the gurukula system prevailed; the students live with the guru in his home and there is no written manuscript of the knowledge the guru provides, everything remains within the brain of the few. Then later with monasteries like Nalanda, which had a collection of exclusive manuscripts started to admit thousands of pupils from all over the world in the basis of merit (he said that each student had to pass through a rigorous 45 minutes interview before getting admitted to the university). With the invention of printing, the copies of the information were available to a larger community and the advent of Internet made it available for all. (I haven’t heard a talk lately where they didn’t used the word ‘google’ :)) . He further said that the new role of the teachers would be designing environments for the students rather than teaching itself.
(We need to find a new term to be used instead of “teachers” then)

The way the education system had been influenced by the industrial revolution was the next thing he talked about; the concept of considering universities as sources to generate wealth. Then he talked about the intellectual property right. The big change in concept from “Publish and perish” to “Protect (patent) and prosper”.

He then made his comment on how the present education system is unconcerned about molding the character of a student. He reminds that there was a time when one won’t lie before the goddess, I mean the idol of the so said goddess (does that mean that if you can’t lie before someone you consider them as goddess (:P)). And the story he said about the robber being asked to swore before the goddess that he is not the culprit in the Panchayats was not so convincing.

“Chance meets the prepared minds is what that leads to innovation.” He further said that “In India we create prepared minds and they meet chance in US”. He talked about the need to stop brain drain and creating opportunities in India itself.

He talked a lot more but I could recollect only this much.
