I hate to be the topper

Last time I came first in class was when I was in first standard. In fact i was not too bothered (aware) about rank those days that i always knew that i was first when they call out my name in assembly to present the first ranker’s medal. And from second standard my mother stopped teaching me and I started learning it all(:P) by myself. And as an end result i lost my rank. I have never been first again and never had the medals.

I waited for about 4 years restlessly to have the rank again but was in vain. And at the end I wanted to discover what the real trick was behind the rank thing. The only one i found who could help me solve the puzzle was ‘Anita’. She had the reputation of all time first ranker in the class those days. But the problem was I was a back bencher, the problem kid, a terrific headache to teachers. And she was the most obedient, teachers pet, nerdy girl of the class. And those were the days when we thought ‘Girls are germs’ (it takes quite long a time to understand that there is an extra ‘r’ hanging around in that statement ;)). So, finally I decided to ask her one day. It was lunch break and most of the boys were out in ground busy playing (except for those ultra bookworms). I went and sat near her and once again made sure that none of my friends were around and..

Me: Anita, I want to know something..

She turned her face and i could see the surprise in her eyes..

Anita: Yes, What is it??

Me: How do you get first rank? I would also like to have it.

She almost had a nervous breakdown. She was sitting there wondering if i went insane or not. Her facial exprssion was telling me ‘Hey, are you mad? Go and fight with some stupid guy’. But she did explain.

Anita: It is so simple..

I was so happy hearing that and set my mind ready to by-heart the mantra she was going to tell..

Anita: You have to spent about 15-20 minutes on each subject learning the stuffs written in notebook that day. And after that you have to read the topics that would be taken the next day. And at the end of the week, you have to learn everything once again and have a testpaper from your parents.

:O

By then, I had a nervous breakdown… Lot of things to do!!!! And i had nothing in my notebook. And learning something more than once!! It is stupid and useless. And isn’t it a crime to learn things before the teacher teaches? You are not supposed to be knowledgeable than your teacher.

I wondered how someone could do all these stuffs just for a medal! I had no way other than dropping my idea of being a first ranker.

And all these years, till date, I never came first in any of the course .. :) But Anita’s tip was so effective that i never wished..

And this heading is an explanation i give for not being one.

Macri-cket

Bucknor out, Bhajji in…

BCCI has shown its power in world cricket. Steve Bucknor is removed from the rest of the India-Australia series and Harbhajan Singh is playing the third test. Like most other Indians I am happy about that but this post is not to criticize or support any team or decision.

All this drama reminded me of another cricket match happened almost 15 years back. The ground and players were different, ball and bat were different and even the game was different. A long six was considered as ‘out’ those days. The ball was of rubber and the bat was of wax. And I was one among the proud players.

This guy, let us call him Raju, was batting and made a terrific shot on a short pitched ball which flew up and up and crossed the upper limit of the boundary and fell into the convent complex and that was called out. Now, Rajumon came up with the argument that the ball caressed the wall and hence he is not out. That was a pointless argument that not even his teammates supported him. And we were not ready to agree that and the argument heated up when Rajumon called someone

Poda Patti, njan out alla (I am not out, you dog).

And the other fellow started to sing

Macro macro, macri out aane’ (Macri is out) .

Macri was his nickname. That was the end of it. He felt so humiliated (racial offense??) that he told he is not playing anymore, took his bat and left the ground. OOPS… We lost our bat. He was the owner of the bat and none could stop him.

Now that we had no choice other than calling him back declaring him as not out, we went for it. We had to struggle a bit to get him back to the ground from his house.

When you have power, it shows.

007

The year 2007 is over, leaving a 2000 and 7 memories.

I had two main roles in the year 2007. The first half of the year witnessed me as a final year engineering student and the second half as a newbie engineer.

The first half was really fabulous. I didn’t learned/did anything technical in this period. It was complete masti except for the main project (I may put up another entry on that. Doing College Projects - the easy way). There were friends of mine in college who started crying from the 1st of January thinking about the farewell. I thought I would never feel sad but eventually I too felt so. These last six months in college were so happening for me and I am happy about that. Tried a lot of new things. I even tried writing a poem on ‘college days’, but terribly failed and had to agree that I can never write poems (but one day, I will my dear friends). The best thing that happened was that I had my B-Tech degree!!

And the second part started soon after the first. And the best thing in this part is that I get a pretty good amount of money every month. And I couldn’t continue with my vrath of not learning. Nothing other than work happened in these 6 months and as a consequence of that I added 7 kg’s of weight L. Maybe all these fat I accumulated will help me survive one day (Sampathu kaalathu thy patthu vechal.. ).

PS: I tied up myself to the chair to complete this. Seems like, I am also infected by Harish’s writer’s block disease!

PS2: Can anyone tell me how I can embedd music (in background) along with an article.
