Finally on Radio…… :-D

Sminesh sir, Unni and me had a great day today at All India Radio, Thrissur recording 2 episodes of ‘Shasthralokam’. Each episode is 12 minutes long and the topics of discussion were,

                            1. Use and Importance of GNU/Linux as an operating system..
                            2. GNU/Linux* in Education..

Recording went well except for the mistakes i made while pronouncing certain words like ‘upabhokthru sauhradam’  (user friendly) :p

We (Unni and me) played the role of students, asking questions like ‘Why is it known as GNU/Linux?’ and Sminesh sir was the Linux guru . The best thing about Sminesh Sir is that he talks well, he almost sounded like a professional news reader. He even changed the script at instances.

The first episode described the installation and basic stuffs of linux.. The second one involved all kind of FSF philosophies.. It almost left a message as ‘Proprietary Software in education is harmful for the society’.

Hey, dont miss to tune your radios on 27th of august……

Very good – can you get the audio files or a transcript? We should put them up on fsugtsr.

  2. pramode_ce says:

Shouldn’t it be `Linux in Education’

Very nice to see that vivek. Why can’t we arrange a program on TV exclusive for Free Software novices?. Or we can start a segment in the existing IT programs which seriously moves on proprietary stuffs (like ‘ Cyber Highway ‘ on People channel. The programme is anchored by well known Anwar Sadath. He is also a staunch supporter of FOSS. I have read many articles of him about Free Software in News Papers. I think he is also in a commanding position in the new Kerala Govt. IT Mission operations. So there is a good chance). Whats ur opinion? Also what about u Pramode sir?

  4. pramode_ce says:

I think it’s possible. Vivek should talk to Sminesh sir about this.

What was used for recording , editing and mastering audio’s I think. Ardour would have been a great tool to do this.

The first episode described the installation and basic stuffs of linux.. The second one involved all kind of FSF philosophies.. It almost left a message as ‘Proprietary Software in education is harmful for the society’.

Would be a great if transcripts and recorded OGGs are available online.

    Hey Vivek,

This phrase-translation is not correct. Upabhokthavu is “customer” in english. Upayokthavu is better. The usage “Sauhrudam” is purely english. We don’t use malayalam in that way. It is a pure uglification of the real meaning. User friendly is “Upayogikkan Eluppam” in true sense. Why can’t we use plain malayalam instead of some “hard phrases” which distorts the real meaning?

    regards

    Jojan
